There's always road work to be done in Winnipeg, and the city is proposing more than 150 projects for local and regional streets in 2018.

At today's official announcement, Mayor Brian Bowman apologized in advance for what he says will be a busy construction season.

"With that warning, I would encourage all of you... to please download the free Waze app so you can better navigate a very busy, in fact, historic, construction season," said Bowman.

$60.3-million is to go to local streets, back lanes, local sidewalks, recreational walkways and bike path renewals. $55.7-million will go to regional, major streets and sidewalk work. Some of the roads slated for renewal work include McGregor Street between Selkirk Avenue and Mountain Avenue, Tache Avenue from St. Mary's to Lyndale, Fermor Avenue from St. Anne's to Archibald, and Notre Dame Avenue from Portage to Princess. A full list can be seen here.

Minister of Natural Resources Jim Carr, who spoke on behalf of federal Infrastructure minister Amarjeet Sohi, said this type of announcement doesn't have a lot of sizzle but it's really important.

"Infrastructure investments really are the economic platform upon which we build so much economic activity, and around which so many... jobs are created," said Carr.

$116-million has been allocated for road work in Winnipeg this year. $11-million is coming from the federal Gas Tax Fund. $40-million is to come from provincial funding, though the province's budget is not yet known.
