The Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service responded to a call of an individual being swept away in the Red River.

Crews responded at 6:32 a.m. April 29, 2019, in the area of Waterfront Drive where the individual was staying afloat holding onto a log.

The individual was brought to safety where he is reported, according to a release, to be in stable condition.

It isn't known at this time how the individual got into the water or how long they've been in the water.

The WFPS want to remind residents that the waterways and banks are not safe and with the rising water levels due to the spring thaw, water is moving rapidly.

"Parents and teachers are reminded to speak to their children about the importance of staying away from all waterways."
