The Winnipeg Police Service says to expect delays in downtown Winnipeg as several lanes will be closed as people from two different groups will march down the streets Friday morning. 

Walk For Water

Up to 1,000 students in Grades 1 through 12 will be taking part in the Walk For Water.

Students will gather at City Hall at 10 a.m. and head south on Main St., then west on Portage Ave., and finally south on Memorial Blvd. 

The students will conclude their march at the Manitoba Legislature.

Grandmothers Walk

Hundreds of people will be taking part in the Grandmothers Walk. 

The walk will start in four different places, and walkers will meet at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. It also begins at 10 a.m and is expected to conclude at noon.

The WPS says the main route will head eastbound on Selkirk Ave., then southbound on Main St., eastbound on William Stephenson Way, and then southbound of Izzy Asper Way.

The WPS says that "Motorists can expect delays along Main Street, Portage Avenue, Memorial Boulevard and The Forks area. Please plan your travel accordingly or consider alternate methods of transportation. Winnipeg Transit may experience delays."
