Winnipeg fire crews were able to rescue a cat from a weekend fire that destroyed a North End Home.

The fire broke out shortly after 3 p.m. in a one-and-a-half-storey home on Flora Street between Powers and Andrews Street.

Heavy smoke was coming from the home when crews arrived. Firefighters battled the blaze for about 45 minutes when they declared it under control.

No one was home when the fire broke out. However, one cat was rescued safely.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
