An annual Canada Day tradition for Winnipeg has become a viral sensation.

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ put on the annual 'living flag' on Canada Day for the 150th birthday celebration. They decided to change it up this year though, making just the leaf instead of the flag.

"We had 3600 people come out with us first thing in the morning at Portage and Main," Tineke de Jong said, the Director of Marketing, Events & Communications for Downtown BIZ. "We couldn't have done it without all those people."

A video was created as they were putting the leaf together and it has gone viral. A British media station picked it up and the video and it already has more than 14 million views.

"It's amazing," de Jong said. "It's fun to see all the people forming the maple leaf . . . then to scatter right after."

de Jong has received calls from different media outlets in England, France, and Norway. She thinks she knows why people just love Canadians.

"We're so diverse and so inclusive," de Jong said. "I think we just know how to celerbrate in style in our own Canadian, humble type of way."

Are they going to top it?

"I don't think we can, let's just be honest," de Jong laughed.
