A 28-year-old Winnipeg man has been handed numerous charges stemming from an incident last week in Dakota Plains First Nation.

On July 31, at around 9 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a residence in Dakota Plains of an assault with a weapon, however, police say the suspect in this incident had left before officers arrived.

Information received by the officer at the scene was adequate to request a warrant of arrest for 28-year-old William Francis of Winnipeg for assault with a weapon, being unlawfully in a dwelling house and failing to comply with a release order.

Francis was located on the morning of August 5 and arrested without incident and held for court that morning.
