A local filmmaker is releasing a project heading into Lent that portrays the 14 stations of the cross in a unique way.

"In the Catholic tradition we have a prayer called The Way of the Cross, or Stations of the Cross," says Bisong Taiwo. "It chronicles Christ's passion and it's broken down into about 14 chapters. I made a cinematic form of this with a couple of twists."

This film, Mary's Way of the Cross, is shot from the perspective of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The twist comes with the fact that it's a modern look at the emotions of Mary rather than a historical retelling.

"It's a contemplative, meditative piece," says Taiwo.

A local actress, Gloria Thompson, portrays Mary in the film, the only person shot throughout.

"I conceived the idea in 2020 but then the pandemic hit. The idea also evolved during that period."

Taiwo is hoping to have a public screening in Winnipeg within the next 40 days. Anyone interested in following the film through the 14 stations and taking part in the public screening can follow Taiwo on his website
