Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute (MBCI) is teaming up with some local businesses to help people suffering from the war in Ukraine.

As of Wednesday MBCI is already 75 per cent of the way to their goal of selling 500 sunflower plants in their fundraiser called Sunflowers for Ukraine.

MBCI is partnering with MCC and Lacoste Garden Centre to sell 5” pots of sunflowers for $10 with $8 going toward disaster relief, helping families in Ukraine.

The group is hoping to reach a goal of $4,000 raised by April 15, and they've sold 400 of the 500 plants.

Purchases can be made online through https://emarket.mbci.mb.ca/donation-drive-for-ukraine/

Delivery to the school is expected in late May and the school will notify people when sunflowers are available to pick up.

As the national flower of Ukraine, the sunflower has quickly become a symbol of solidarity for the country and its people.

MBCI has also incorporated ways for students to support the efforts in helping families in Ukraine, including a prayer wall in the school, painting blue and yellow hearts, and allowing students times to talk and pray over the situation.
