Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) remains on the scene of a fire that closed a city street.

At 12:44 p.m. today, WFPS responded to a fire after one of their own members saw smoked and called 911.

The fire, noticed by the WFPS member passing by, was in a vacant two-storey house in the 500 block of William Avenue.

WFPS says, "Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the house. Crews launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 1:45 p.m."

William Avenue is now open to traffic after being closed from Isabel Street and Kate Street while crews completed their work on scene.

No occupants were found in the house after a search conducted by WFPS.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
