The two new cases of COVID-19 reported on Friday is bringing the province's total to 300.

One case is a truck driver that travelled outside the province, the other a close household contact. Manitoba's Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin says they haven't seen any specific trend on where truck drivers are becoming infected.

"We know that travel outside of Manitoba, especially into the U.S, carries with it increased risk," he says. "We know Manitoba's numbers have been quite favourable so travel outside Manitoba increases that risk."

He notes they're working closely with trucking agencies to implement the option for asymptomatic testing on those that leave the province.

Currently, no individuals are in hospital, though officials are monitoring nine active cases. In total, 284 individuals have recovered from COVID-19 and the number of deaths remains at seven.

As of yesterday, an additional 671 laboratory tests were performed. This brings the total number of tests performed since early February to 47,372.

Officials say due to low patient volumes a number of rural testing sites will be closed on Sundays including Winkler, Portage and Steinbach.
