Since 2004 the local churches in Steinbach have organized their members for an annual city-wide spring cleanup. This year they picked a record-setting amount of trash.

Over 2,000 volunteers showed up on Saturday morning and hit the ditches, boulevards, and parks.

The City of Steinbach's Solid Waste Department Head, Eldon Wallman says the work of these volunteers in three to four hours would have three full-time workers busy for a year.

Wallman adds over ten tonnes of garbage was collected this year.

"We actually found a fair bit of construction material this year that was blown around. We've had some pretty bad winds in the last couple weeks and stuff gets blown away from construction sites."

Interesting finds this year included a grad dress bowling picture, Monopoly money, a small Santa hat, a garden glove missing two fingers, and a crayfish.
