This time of year is especially trying for Siloam Mission in meeting the needs of the city's most vulnerable.

The biggest challenge is making sure everything can stay open so people have a warm place to get in out of the cold during the day and at night. Luke Thiessen, Communications Manager with Siloam Mission said that the shelter is full every night year-round. Because of that, there is a waiting list at night to get in so people have to get redirected to other services to get out of the cold.

Thiessen said that right now they're looking for help in making sure that they have things to give out in their clothing program and health centre.

He said it's especially tough now in January when the holidays are over and when the weather gets cold. That's when donations are lower.

Items that are needed right now are new clean underwear, boots, jackets, and mitts as well as chapstick and cold medication.
