School is out and summer has begun, which means school zones no longer are in effect.

School zone speed limits will not be in effect between July 1 and August 31. The regular speed limit will apply in these areas.

"We would just ask that, when people pass through those areas, they keep an eye out," Jay Murray, a Public Information Officer with the Winnipeg Police Service said. "Expect the unexpected."

Murray also encourages parents to teach their kids how to cross the road so they can avoid injury as well.

"Teach your kids to find a safe place to cross the road," Murray said. "Parents can explain that a parked car can cause visibility issues and to not play near them."

Continue to use caution in school zones, as kids may still be playing on school property or on playgrounds in the area.
