The Pembina Trail Library is once again open.

The library had been closed for renovations.

City of Winnipeg manager of library services Ed Cuddy says Pembina Trail is a super busy branch and he knows the community's missed it, but he says the improvements made are worth the wait.

Improvements include universally accessible washrooms, new flooring, new paint, furniture and service desks, as well as a new 24/7 book return location. Sliding doors have been installed at the entrance, and there is improved shelving and collections layouts.

Kim Brglez lives in St. Vital but used to live closer to Pembina Trail and says it's always been her favourite library in the city. She says her family went elsewhere during the renovations and wanted to come back to Pembina Trail when it opened up.

"They've done a really nice job with everything. I really like the kids area, we've got some new little things for them to look at, and the books are nice, too, like they're always in good quality," says Brglez.

According to Cuddy, the Friends of Winnipeg Public Library also provided funding for a family literacy playground in the children's section.

"This is interactive furniture that promotes the development of early childhood literacy, but the kids have fun playing with it so they don't necessarily realize that they're learning while they're playing," says Cuddy.

Cuddy says Winnipeg's two oldest libraries, St. John's and Cornish, are also undergoing renovations that will see improvements made to accessibility.
