Manitoba RCMP says a motorcyclist's need for speed was extremely dangerous and inconsiderate of others' lives.

The Manitoba RCMP said in a release that on officer on patrol in the RM of St. Clements on Sunday night noticed "two motorcycles heading toward him travelling at high rates of speed."

The officer was heading southbound on Highway 59 when the northbound motorcycles appeared.

"The lead motorcycle was attempting to race the second motorcycle," the release says. "Police clocked the lead motorcycle on radar going 180 km/hr in a posted 100 km/hr zone. Traffic was heavy, and the motorcycles were approaching a populated area."

Not only was the driver speeding, but he then refused to pull over for the officer.

"When the officer activated his lights, turned around and began the process of pulling the motorcycle over, the driver failed to stop for approximately 1.5 km. The 23-year-old male driver from the RM of St. Clements was issued tickets for Speeding, Careless Driving, Racing with Another Motor Vehicle, and Fail to Yield for Emergency Vehicle. He was fined $2739, issued a serious offence notice to report to MPI within 5 days, and his motorcycle was impounded for 7 days for racing."
