It was a tense evening for some residents in the Osborne area.

At around 9:20 p.m. Sunday night, a loud message was broadcast in the densely populated residential area, stating that Canada was under attack by a nuclear threat.

Constable Jay Murray with the Winnipeg Police Service says they attended shortly after but were unable to find the culprit.

"We believe this to be unfounded. This is obviously something very illegal to do. There is probably a number of charges that this would fall under. We do treat it very seriously and would love to find out who did this," explained Murray.

According to Winnipeg Police, the broadcast was coming from just northeast of the Roslyn Road and Osborne area.

"We are going to keep looking into this. If anyone has information on who may have done this, or if you have a friend that was talking about doing this kind of prank, we ask that you call us," said Constable Murray

Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency line at 204-986-6222.
