North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church will be filled with joyful noise this weekend as the Kildonan Community Choir puts on a special show.

One Noel- Sing the Song of Christmas is a soulful celebration featuring a 60-voice choir and a 20-piece orchestra, an opportunity to experience a holiday show while helping a good cause.

"It's a just kind of a celebration of Christmas, of Advent coming up, and just to get people into the spirit to sing together and worship together. We're very excited about it," said Rafael Duerksen, executive director of Generation Rising and a tenor in the Kildonan Community Choir.

There is no charge for the concert, but a freewill offering will be collected for Generation Rising.

"We are a small nonprofit dedicated to providing children who live in poverty in Latin America, Paraguay, Honduras, and Nicaragua a high-quality Christian education," Duerksen explained. " We believe firmly that you have to interrupt the cycle of poverty, and one of the ways to interrupt that cycle of poverty is to provide children with opportunity and to provide children with faith because both of those things together can really change, not just the life of a child or a family."

Duerksen says the money raised at the concert will help build Christian schools, train teachers and provide scholarships for children who would otherwise go uneducated.

"I think you should check out this concert because it's going be this time where you're going to sit with hundreds of other people. You're going to sing some of the songs that you know. You're going to learn some new songs, and you are just going to be transported into the spirit of Christmas, into the spirit of Jesus coming to this earth to save us from our sins, to restore our relationship with God."

The concert will take place on Sunday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church.
