Police have closed off two busy stretches of downtown streets this morning that could affect the morning rush hour.

Westbound Portage Avenue is closed from Smith Street to Donald Street. Northbound Smith Street is also closed between Portage Avenue and Ellice Avenue.

There is no word right now on how long the closures might last. Drivers should plan alternate routes for their morning commute right now. 

Update - 7:45 a.m.:

Police now say that the situation has been cleared, and the roads are open again.
