Skillet is back in Winnipeg for the first time in years and the band is excited.

The Unleashed Tour, headlined by Skillet, arrives at the Burton Cumming Theatre on Monday, September 11. They recently finished a tour with Korn and are back headlining on what is now the third leg of this tour. According to John Cooper, Skillet's lead singer, it's been a lot of fun.

"It's been really great," Cooper said. "There is nothing like doing your own headline run."

Their latest album, Unleashed, was released last year and features two songs currently on CHVN's playlist, Stars and Lions

Cooper and his band are one of the hardest working bands there is, but that doesn't dampen their enthusiasm.

"Skillet is very full of energy, it's what we are known for," Cooper said. "That comes from a passion for the music, passion for the show, and passion for the fans.

"We don't want it to feel like you're just listening to the CD loud, we want it to be an experience."

They want that passion to translate to the fans so they want to come back and learn more and hear more.

"I want everyone feeling good and wanting to come back again," Cooper said.

One of the songs that will likely be played at the concert is Stars and Cooper was excited to talk about the meaning behind it.

"Stars is written about how I can relate to the idea of how God is in control of the big things in the world," Cooper said. "But I have a hard time at times trusting God for my own life."

He said when it gets down to the intricacies of his life, he sometimes struggles thinking that God is actually watching out for those things. He wrote the song about that.

"You don't forget my name," Cooper said. "I think that's one of my favorite lines in the song . . . it's a really huge statement."

Tickets are selling out fast for what is sure to be an amazing concert. Special Guests Art of Dying and Spoken will be with them as well.
