For some schools, while phones can be a useful part of technology and learning, they can also be a bit of a distraction.

Janet Holst-Behrens is the principal of Iowa Valley Jr/Sr High School. She has started an initiative called No Phones, New Friends Fridays, a lunchtime tradition to encourage conversation.

This new program started at the beginning of the school year, and so far the response has been great.

Holst-Behrens says in just three months, she can already see a difference in the environment of the school.

During No Phones, New Friends Fridays, students are asked to put away their phones during the lunch hour and to sit at a new table with new people each day.

Holst-Behrens says this is just the start of something new. She has plans already in the works for a few more initiatives in the very near future.
