We had a lot of fun on Thursday morning's show when I (Mike Thom) played audio from his four-year-old son having a polka party.

An epic tantrum resulted in a timeout for my boy last night, but I told him he could play some music to help him calm down. I heard a few angry screams and then something like, "OK, Googoo, pway chicken dans, play chicken dans!"

Lo and behold the classic polka song, "Der Ententanz" ("the duck dance") started to play. You likely know it better as "The Chicken Dance." My son chose "The Chicken Dance" to help regulate his emotions, and I thought that was pretty hilarious and played you the audio proof. As I shared the story today, and while I was talking live on the air, the thought came to me, "I wonder if there is Christian polka music?!"

Well, lo and behold again, and by golly, there is! I ended up going deep down the Christian polka rabbit hole for you all and wanted to share these amazing results. I was also getting a lot of text messages on the Dead Horse Sales & Rentals Talk & Text Line about people's secret love of polka.

Get some dancing partners (but leave room for Jesus!) and check out the amazing Christian polkas.

First, the video that started it all

@reverend_thom my 4 year old was throwing an epic tantrum, so I told him he needed quiet time in his room, but could listen to some music. this is his choice 🐥 🕺 #preschooler #preschoolbrain #meltdown #emotionalintelligence #dadlife #dadgang ♬ original sound - Mike Thom

Now, to the good stuff!

Chardon Polka Band - "How Great Thou Art"

When I Google "Christian polka music," this is my second result, and this is the song I shared on-air this morning. "How Great Thou Art" is my all-time favourite hymn, and I have to admit that I am pretty enamoured with this rendition.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the Chardon Polka Band!

Ted Jordan Band - Polka Praise

I dare you to watch this and not be singing along within 30 seconds. I'm not a big polka expert, but it sounds like they took popular polka tunes and rewrote the words. This definitely has earned the Mike Thom stamp of approval! "Jesus is my saviour, yah, yah, yah!"

Mollie B with Ted Lange - "Praise The Lord Polka"

I feel The Church could use more accordion in general. There was an accordion player at both of my childhood churches. I bet you that's what would get young people interested in church again! (It's worth a shot.)

Chris Rybak - "Amazing Grace (Polka Version)"

OK, never mind the accordion, the Church needs more bagpipes! This is a fun rendition of "Amazing Grace."

What else?!
