A number of Canadian adults don't have a last will and testament in place, and according to a survey by the Angus Reid Institute, many cite age or a lack of assets for their reasoning.

The Angus Reid poll found 51 per cent of Canadians say they have no last will and testament in place; 25 per cent said that's because they're too young to worry about it. In Manitoba and Saskatchewan, 58 per cent were found not to have a will and testament.

Winnipeg lawyer David Vincent, partner at Tacium Vincent & Associates, says, generally, often age, marital status, personal circumstance, and property affect statistics regarding people and wills; his recommendation is everyone get one.

"A lot of times if you're at all like a lot of people you're worth way more dead than alive," says Vincent. He says you've got to consider things like Life Insurance as part of your estate.

The self-commissioned Angus Reid poll from December 20th surveyed 1,516 Canadian adults who are members of the Angus Reid Forum and it carries a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points,
19 times out of 20.
