Now that we've made it to June, summer is on most people's minds. Here are a few things to look forward to this year.

Canada's Turning 150

O Canada! Our great country turns 150 on July 1 and wants to celebrate it with you. All year long there have been events celebrating the milestone, but these will really ramp up as we get closer to July 1.

Parks Canada

To celebrate Canada's 150 years, Parks Canada is offering free entry into all National Parks! All you need to do is order the free pass (with free shipping), and you could be exploring Kluane National Park and Reserve in the Yukon, with Canada's highest peak. Or camp lakeside inside a beautiful Acadian forest at Kejimkujik, Nova Scotia!

Here in Manitoba, that includes Wapusk National Park of Canada, one fo the largest polar bear denning areas in the world. Or even Riding Mountain National Park of Canada, one of Manitoba's tallest hills.

"Parks Canada is inviting Canadians to expereince more about nature and learn more about our history, " said Natalie Fay, Chief of Media Relations with Parks Canada. "We are waiving admission fees and inviting Canadians to discover new parts of the country.

Fay suggested Waterton Lake as a possible destination for your summer drives.

Canada Summer Games

The Canada Summer Games are coming to Winnipeg! After hosting a successful FIFA tournament, as well as an amazing Heritage Classic, Winnipeg is really starting to show how good we are at this sports thing. We asked Sarah Tone from Canada Summer Games why this will be good for Winnipeg.

"It's an amazing thing for Winnipeg," said Sarah Tone from the Canada Summer Games. "It's a chance for over 4000 athletes and coaches . . . to showcase their skills at a national scale and that's going to happen in Winnipeg, which is so exciting."

Tone is excited for the games to kick off, but is also looking at the legacy the Summer Games will leave on Winnipeg. "We're going to leave these major legacies in terms of physical infrastructure," Tone said.

Solar Eclipse

Jay Anderson, Winnipegger and Eclipse enthusiast, explains that we can expect a 77% solar eclipse from Winnipeg's view this August. In order to see the full eclipse, you would have to follow Jay on his trip down to Wyoming.

"It'll put a nice big smile on the sun's face for us," Anderson said. "It's going to be quite a sight."

Concerts

We have some concert announcements coming up in the near future that make will make the summer here in Winnipeg even better. Keep it locked to CHVN to be the first to find out!
