If you want to learn more about refugees and what they have to go through to arrive and stay in Canada, there is an information session tonight.

The West End Cultural Centre is hosting an information night on refugees and the process they need to go through to arrive in Canada. A law professor and a recent refugee claimant will be there to share and answer questions that the public may have.

"Today is an important day recognized by the UN," Hani Al-Ubeady, Community Engagement Coordinator at Immigration Partnership Winnipeg said. "A day to eliminate racial distrimination, and we thought it was a perfect day [to have this]."

Al-Ubeady said it's a good chance to understand the story behind these refugees. It's an open invitation to learn more about the struggles many have had to face both in their home countries and in their new ones.

"I think it is important for one simple reason," Al-Ubeady said. "We need to understand the human struggle, the human need for protection, and we need to understand [more] about what brought people to the state of being refugees."

The session will start at 6:00 p.m. tonight at the West End Cultural Centre on Ellice.
