Manitoba's budget will be unveiled in a few hours.

Kirsten Bernas is a spokesperson for the Right to Housing Coalition. She says they're hoping the province will demonstrate it will make significant investments in social and affordable housing.

"We're going to be looking for investments in capital so that we can build new social and affordable housing, and dollar amounts representing investments in the repair of our stock, because not only do we not have enough social housing units, we need to maintain what we already have," said Bernas over the phone this morning.

Premier Brian Pallister has said already the government will be raising the basic personal exemption for income tax. Bernas says that's a sliver of what's needed.

"We need this province to take a comprehensive approach to reducing poverty, and that example of an initiative is not going to get us there, right? So we're looking at things like increases to the minimum wage," said Bernas.

Finance minister Cameron Friesen said last week that affordability would be one of the issues addressed in the budget.
