Much of southwestern Manitoba, including Winnipeg is covered in a thick blanket of fog this morning.

According to Environment Canada, the dense fog extends roughly from east of Winnipeg to west of Brandon then north to Dauphin.

Motorists heading out on the roads this morning should be prepared for long stretches of near zero visibility on open roadways including much of the Trans Canada.

When visibility is reduced, motorists are encouraged to slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

The fog is expected to lift by noon for many areas, but could persist well into the afternoon in parts of the Red River Valley.

The areas marked in grey are currently under the advisory.
