Officers were "forced to fatally shoot" a man early this morning.

The Winnipeg Police Service says five units responded to a call of "Family Trouble" early this morning.

Police arrived to find a 27-year-old man was attacking two members of his household in the 100 block of Kowalsky Crescent with an edged knife.

Constable Rob Carver says that the 27-year-old was shot by police outside the home.

The 27-year-old man succumbed to his injuries today.

"Those officers are traumatized themselves," Constable Carver says. "No officer ever really thinks it is going to happen."

The two victims in the residence are both in hospital. One is in unstable condition and one in stable condition.
