Remedial repairs are underway after a vehicle slammed into the skywalk that connects the RBC Convention Centre to the Delta Winnipeg.

The incident happened Monday, just after 12 p.m. on Carlton Street, leaving a gaping hole on the north side of the skywalk.

According to reports, a disposal truck had dropped off a garbage bin and forgot to lower its hoist before driving off.

Carlton street was shut down for a short period of time while officials assessed the damage, but has since been reopened.

The skywalk is closed until further notice.

This same stretch of skywalk was shut down multiple times during 2015 and 2016 due to structural concerns and repairs. It had been slated to be renovated in the very near future.
