Whiteout excitement has turned into vast amounts of generosity from Winnipeggers for one local food bank.

Colleen McVarish, assistant director of development and communications for Winnipeg Harvest, says donations have been plentiful over the past few days, thanks to many bringing items to support the organization at last week's Whiteout Street Party.

Harvest, which has been in dire need of donations over the past few weeks, is extremely grateful for the public response to their request for goods.

"We were ecstatic with the overpouring of support that came in at last Thursday's street party... we collected about 2,700 pounds of food and about $3,700 in cash.

"We were thrilled," McVarish shared.

McVarish says the support hasn't stopped with the street parties, though. Over the past few days, numerous individuals have been stopping by with additional needed donations for the organization.

Winnipeg Harvest will be at tonight's street party, once again collecting donations.

According to Harvest, spring tends to be a time for low donations. They hope, however, to turn that around this year with the street party support they have been receiving.

Items Harvest is still in need of include proteins such as canned stew, canned beans, canned fish, carbohydrates such as pasta, rice, and instant potatoes, and canned soups, vegetables, and fruit.

They will be set up all five gates tonight at the Jets game collecting donations from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
