Laura Kathleen Turner and Marc A. Moir star in the upcoming two-person play, Dietrich and Maria next week in Steinbach.

The play is about the true love story of German pastor, theologian, and spy, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his fiancé, Maria Von Wedemeyer. Their exchange of letters, while Bonhoeffer is in prison, explores the themes of truth and the power of true love in the darkest of circumstances.

"It's a gut-wrenchingly beautiful play," says Moir. "One of the first things you do as an actor is sit down and do a table read of the play. I wept at that first read through and I know Laura cried a fair bit as well. It's a beautiful, heartbreaking play and yet there's so much hope in it."

Turner and Moir are co-artistic directors of Looking Glass Theatre.

The play runs from February 21 to 24 at the Steinbach Heritage Museum. The show begins at 7 p.m. and it's rush seating. Tickets for Dietrich and Maria can be purchased at the door or ahead of time here

"Laura is absolutely mesmerizing in this play," says Moir. "She gives such a raw and powerful performance. I've been doing this for 20 years and I'm working hard to keep up."

The play was written by Turner's husband Scot Moir.

"It's resonating with people," says Turner. "Audiences can be assured that it is going to be quite a special, magical evening."
