More medications have been added to the Manitoba Pharmacare Program.

The province announced today coverage for 154 medications, including drugs for various cancer treatments and Tresiba, a long-acting insulin used to treat Types 1 and 2 diabetes. As well, insulin drugs Lantus, Levemir, and Basaglar, are being moved to Part 1 of the formulary, so physicians will no longer need to apply for their coverage before the patient can get it from a pharmacy.

120 of the 154 medications are generic. New coverage for the drugs is effective immediately.

Pharmacare is based on family income and covers 100 per cent of eligible drug costs once the income-based deductible is reached.
