Matt Coates knows there is more to life than football, but knows he's been given the talent to play.

Coates is new to Winnipeg but has really enjoyed the group of guys he has met since arriving.

"It's actually been a lot easier [than I thought," said Coates. "All the guys are really good guys, none of them are self-centered.

"All the guys are really open to your views."

Being a part of chapel is very important to Coates, because many of the guys can relate to each other, since many of them have been in similar situations.

"It makes it easier for you to express your thoughts," he said. "It's an accountability aspect too."

A verse that has been important to Coates is Isiah 41:10 and he uses that verse to get through a tough time.

"[It] sheds light on my situation and I realize it's not that big of a deal because God is on my side," Coates said. "As long as you put your best foot forward and give the glory to God, that is all you can really do."

Coates is a wide receiver for the Blue Bombers, but doesn't let the glory of the big catch get to his head.

"Football is just another talent that I've been blessed with, I try not to [make it] more than that," Coates said. "There are many more things that are important in life and you have to put your priorities straight.

"While I'm doing the best I can . . . I'm also realizing that this is not the only thing I'm put on the earth for."
