The names of Leonard and Eleane Baranyk may not be up in lights, but they received an honour today that might be a close second.

City Councillors Mike Pagtakhan and Devi Sharma presented the Baranyk's with a street sign, marking the honorary renaming of Hutchings Street from Inkster Boulevard to Sheppard Street to "Leonard and Elane Baranyk Way" for the next five years. The couple, along with their sons Lenny, Jason and Jeff bought have owned the company for 37 years.

Leonard said it's an honour for him to receive this, but he says it reflects the people who have helped him along the way.

"It shows you we're only as good as the people," he said. "Pratt's has been around for 117 years so this is a great honour and a great surprise at the same time."

"This is something we will cherish and remember for the rest of our lives."

Leonard started working at Pratt's 50 years ago. After working there for 23 years him, Eleane and their sons bought the company in 1980 and have been running it ever since. When Leonard started in 1967, Pratt’s only had 8 employees, and since then he has seen and helped the business grow to nearly 550 employees, with 250 employees based here in Winnipeg.

An emotional Eleane said the amount of support and love she felt was almost indescribable.

"I'm so thankful for all our friends and our family for everything they're doing for us," she said. "We're very proud of them and we thank them very much for all they're doing for us because we wouldn't be where we are without everybody else."

When asked what it was going to be like seeing their name on a street they drive down every day, Lenny - who was praised by many for his sense of humour - said he won't let it go to his head.

"It won't change my way of doing business or my lifestyle," he said. "It will just be an extra honour."
