It's a busy start to the weekend for Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service after crews battled five separate fires Saturday morning.

The first fire broke out just before 1 a.m. in a vacant industrial building on Sutherland Avenue. The same building was gutted in July 2023 and set ablaze several times since then.

Officers driving through the area noticed smoke coming from the building and notified the fire department.

When crews arrived, the building was engulfed in heavy flames and smoke.

An excavator was ordered to the scene to assist crews by moving debris and exposing hot spots. The fire was declared under control just after 6 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

Shortly before 2 a.m. a second blaze broke out in a single-storey commercial warehouse and office building in the 1400 block of Inkster Boulevard. This fire was also discovered by officers patrolling the area.

When fire crews arrived to the location, they found smoke and flames coming from the building. Crews quickly battled the fire, declaring it under control just after 2 a.m

No injuries were reported.

At around 3 a.m. firefighters were called to a large fire on the exterior of a commercial structure in the 500 block of Dufferin Avenue.

Several passengers vehicles and a semi-trailer unit were engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Electrical lines, also damaged by the fire, had fallen on the building and were arching.

Crews immediately launched a fire attack to prevent the fire from extending to the structure.

The fire was declared under control at 4:08 a.m.

While the vehicles and semi-trailer are considered complete losses, the building sustained minimal heat damage.

About an hour later, crews were called to a house fire in the 1300 block of Manitoba Avenue.

Firefighters took about a half hour to get the blaze under control.

No one was in the house when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.

The final fire started at 5:45 a.m. in a garage in the 700 block of Flora Avenue.

The garage was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Crews quickly worked to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring structures. The fire was declared under control at 5:57 a.m.

The cause of all five fires remains under investigation.
