Suspended Superheroes rappel for a cause, raise $88K for HSC Children’s Hospital
An annual event where superheroes bring joy to patients at HSC Children's Hospital brought smiles again on Friday. The fourth annual Suspended Superheroes fundraiser was organized by the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba and Winnipeg-based Voyageur Technical. Volunteers dressed up as superheroes and community protectors. While in costume and safety harnesses, they would rappel down Manitoba’s only children’s hospital. Kids and families inside would get to see some of their favourite heroes up close as they would have a moment of distraction from their hospital stay. This year, over $88,000 was raised for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba from Voyageur Technical, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, the Winnipeg Police Service, the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP and special superheroes-in-training. “Each year, Suspended Superheroes gets bigger, bolder, and more meaningful,” says Stefano Grande, President and CEO of Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba in a news release. “These dedicated groups are not only fundraising for the care kids need, but also giving families comfort and joy during difficult times in hospital. We are so grateful for their commitment.” Healthcare workers can see firsthand how much of a difference something like this can make for the kids. "Suspended Superheroes is a highlight of the year,” says Jenny Kidder, Manager of Child Life, at HSC Children’s Hospital in a news release. “The joy, distraction and sense of celebration bring comfort to kids and families, and truly help support their healing journey.” Returning for the fourth year, Voyageur Technical and emergency responders say they’re honoured to take part. "We are proud to return for a fourth year and to stand alongside our emergency response partners,” says Chris Toews, Managing Director of Voyageur Technical in a news release. “Seeing the excitement on the kids’ faces makes this one of the most rewarding days of the year.” Donations for the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba can still be made here.
