A man is in hospital after he was shot during a confrontation in a road rage incident.

The Winnipeg Police Service says that the incident took place Saturday evening around 5:55. Emergency personnel responded to a call of a man injured from a gunshot wound in the area of Kingsbury Ave. and McPhillips St.

Police say that two adult males in a vehicle had been driving in the area when they became involved in an incident with three adult males in another vehicle. Both vehicles pulled over to a nearby parking lot where the occupants became involved in an argument.

During the argument, one of the three adult males was shot and the two adult males fled the area in their vehicle. The injured male was transported to hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

The two groups were unknown to each other before the incident.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man in the 800 block of Selkirk Ave. at 6:15 p.m. in relation to the incident. A second suspect, another 19-year-old man, turned himself in to police Sunday afternoon. Both men are facing several charges, and the firearm in the incident has still not been located.

Don't engage with somebody who's upset

"I don't want to suggest that these two victims did anything wrong but if you can prevent it, don't pull over and engage somebody's who's upset," Const. Jay Murray of the WPS said.

He said, in this case, investigators still don't fully understand what happened to lead to this instance.

Murray says that gun crime is on the rise in Winnipeg, and the WPS is making changes to address it. That includes restructuring the Street Crime Unit.
