Grotto Theater Ministries invites community to outdoor play in St. Malo
A theatre group in southern Manitoba is inviting the public to partake and enjoy their upcoming play called 'Our Lady's Legacy.' "Grotto Theater Ministries is a beautiful Christian theater group," says founder Miranda Hutlet. "We are all run entirely by volunteers and we're based in the beautiful grotto of St. Malo." Hutlet started the ministry in 2023. Previously, she had written and directed Passion Plays since she was 17. "We were visiting the St. Malo grotto one day. A man who was working there it was his last week of a five year project. He looked up at us and said, 'Hey. You guys should do a Passion-type play here.' That blew me away. We took two weeks to discern if this was really what the Lord was calling us to, and within five days, we had the enthusiastic support of the local pastor." .embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; } The first play at the grotto in 2023 had roughly 100 volunteer cast and crew members. "Since then, the Lord has called us to develop a second play. We learned how to do Stations of the Cross. This is our third outdoor grotto play, where we bring people to the grotto and they're able to listen and participate in the play. There is beautiful live music throughout." The play will run on September 13 in the late afternoon and evening, and then again after the Sunday morning service at 3:00 p.m. on September 14. The events are free and open to everyone with no registration necessary. "I hope that people would come away with a deep sense of peace. A greater sense of how people fit into the family of God." On top of directing the play, Hutlet has her entire family, a husband and six kids, involved in the production. "I have a very supportive husband, and he is an event coordinator too. I would say I do this because the Lord has called me to. I don't have a ton of extra time in my life, as we also homeschool our children. We also run our own hobby farm. I think my children can hopefully see this calling that their mother has been given from the Lord. As a family, it's fun!"
