Music, food and fun on the menu at South Osborne free church event
A church in South Osborne is welcoming the community by providing a tasty dinner and live entertainment, all for free. "On August 14, from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m., the Green Team will be hosting a barbecue with live music in our park," Carrington Dong, co-leader of the Green Team at Gateway Church South Osborne, said. "It's a time for the community to gather together and for people in the community to socialize." Following the success of the event last year, the team is excited to host again. "Our heart and goal is to see the community feel together, especially in times of isolation. We just endured the last four years of COVID-19 and so we really want to make sure everyone is feeling like they're a neighbour to each other," Terrence Nehring-Clarke, co-leader of the Green Team said. .embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; } At Gateway Church South Osborne, the Green Team hosts many events around the community. "The Green Team is hired under a grant given to a church that applies," Nehring-Clarke said. "We have an allotted amount of finance to go through the summer to do community outreach as well as host a couple events, but our main goal is to reach out to the community to spread love and joy," he said. On August 14, there is a full night planned. "We will be handing out hot dogs and everything is free," Dong said. "We have some local musicians performing as well and music's a great way for people to socialize." "We're going to include some entertainment for the kids. This is a family event, so families of all ages are welcome. It's in a park, so there'll be a playground there, there'll be food. We're encouraging everyone to bring blankets and lawn chairs so they can sit together and enjoy their time," Dong said. The barbecue and live music event is at Gateway Church South Osborne, 486 Rathgar Avenue, on Thursday, August 14, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
