A Bible mobile application with over 400 million users says the most popular verse of 2019 brings people back to prayer.

YouVersion is a Bible app used by many around the world to engage with the Word. In 2019, they report that 35.6 billion Bible chapters were read in total, that is 30 per cent more than last year.

The YouVersion Founder Bobby Gruenewald says in a statement, "we're encouraged to see so many people turning to the Bible in response to their worries, remembering what God has done in their lives, and choosing to trust in His faithfulness."

On the app, users are able to highlight passages, share Bible verses on social media, create notes, subscribe to daily devotional plans, and more. The verse that was most engaged with this year worldwide and in Canada was Philippians 4:6: "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done." YouVersion says this verse was "shared, bookmarked, and highlighted most often by the global YouVersion Community during 2019."

Over 478 million verses were shared through YouVersion.

"Every year, when we dig into these numbers, we're overwhelmed by how God is using this app to deliver His message of hope and love to a hurting world," Gruenewald says.

The app offers the Bible in over 1,350 languages, the verse most shared in English is Psalm 103:13.
