Police say a woman was shot and robbed while attempting to give a man directions.

On June 18, in the area of Simcoe Street and St. Mathews Avenue, a woman was walking in the area at around 11:15 p.m.

While out, she was approached by a man who claimed needed directions. The Winnipeg Police Service says that as the woman pulled out her phone to help, the suspect then attempted to rob the woman.

As the man attempted to rob the woman of her phone, a fight began. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot the woman in the upper body. He then allegedly stole her phone and fled.

The woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigators are now asking the public for their assistance finding the suspect.

Police believe he is a white male and is possibly 18-30 years old. He is described as having a skinny build, below average height at approximately 5'4-5'8 feet tall, and with dark hair.

They believe at the time of the reported incident, he was wearing light-coloured shorts and a black hoodie with an unknown logo on it.

Investigators are asking people to call them as 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477) if they have any information.
