Whiteout conditions are expected to hit Winnipeg in mid-April for the first time since 2015.

That's because the Winnipeg Jets have officially clinched a playoff spot for the first time in three years. With a 5-4 shootout win over the first-place Nashville Predators, the Jets are now 46-19-10, setting a franchise high in points and wins.

The Winnipeg Whiteout is a tradition carrying back to the original Winnipeg Jets, as a way to show off Winnipeg fans to the National Hockey League. It caught on quickly and stayed throughout the first tenure of the Jets. It returned again in 2015 when the Jets 2.0 made the playoffs last.

The Jets don't have a set playoff opponent, with the Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche, and St. Louis Blues all vying for third in the Central Division. It the Jets can win the first-round, the Predators are a likely second-round opponent.

It's been a successful season for the Jets. Blake Wheeler has hit career-highs in points and assists, Patrik Laine surpassed 40 goals and is eyeing 50, and Kyle Connor has put himself in talks for Rookie of the Year. In net, Connor Hellbuyck has been amazing, posting career-best numbers.

The last time the Jets were in the playoffs, they were swept by the Anaheim Ducks in four straight games. Ondrej Pavelec was still the starting goaltender and players like Andrew Ladd, Michael Frolik, Evander Kane and Zach Bogosian were still on the team.
