Southern Manitoba is set to receive "an intense band of flurries" Wednesday night.

An eastwards band of flurries is moving, along with a cold front, across southern parts of Manitoba. The band is set to bring brief, but heavy, snowfall periods throughout the night amounting to five to 10 cm of snow.

"Visibilities will be rapidly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow," Environment Canada says.

The band is stretching from Carberry southwards to the U.S. border, and northwards to the central Interlake region. Tonight it will hit the Red River Valley.

Winnipeg will see the snowfall between 6 and 8 p.m.

This cold front is the reason for the freezing temperatures later in the week.
