Sunday was a day filled with laughter, haircuts, and complete transformation.

The fifth annual Haircuts for Homeless held this weekend at One88 Church was more than just an opportunity for Winnipeg's less fortunate to take a few inches off the top.

"It felt like a giant family gathering," said Brendalee Reimer, the organizer of the event. "If you were to close your eyes all you would hear is just laughter and talking."

Reimer, who organizes the event through her organization, Snippets of Love, said about 63 haircuts were completed yesterday afternoon.

Individuals who received the chance to have their hair cut were more than just physically helped by the event, however.

One man who came in to get his hair cut, dubbed "Smiley" by Reimer because she could not convince him to do so, particularly resonated with Reimer.

"When he left, that man could not stop smiling!" she laughed, "and when he left he wanted pictures with everybody!"

A testimony to the impact a simple haircut can have in helping individuals experience the love of Jesus, Reimer was beyond thankful for how the event came together.

"The gratitude that we felt, and like we kept on saying 'thank you for coming!' and [their response] was 'thank you for having us!'"

Feedback Reimer received from the hairdressers who volunteered their time to help with the event urged Reimer to do the event more frequently. First-time hairdressers participating Sunday, too, remarked how they would definitely be returning to take part in the event again.

"It was just awesome," Reimer smiled.
