A Winnipeg man is charged with the homicide of a 3-month-old boy.

The baby was found by emergency crews on January 11 in a Lord Roberts neighbourhood home. Emergency crews responded to a call about an unconscious infant, administered first-aid, and rushed the infant to the hospital. The boy passed away in hospital due to internal injuries on Wednesday, January 15.

A 29-year-old man was formally arrested by the Winnipeg Police Service yesterday for manslaughter. The charge is based on the evidence available and the nature of the infant's injuries.

The man was part of the family household and lived at the residence. He is not believed to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was not known to police.

"From the investigated perspective there wasn't premeditated intent," Constable Rob Carver says.

The incident is being investigated by the Child Abuse Unit.

"I think in an awful lot of child abuse cases and child homicide there isn't a motive," Constable Rob Carver says. "Frustrations of life can move to an episode of anger... babies are delicate little things that if they are subjected to an angry outburst and suffer tragic injuries."

The 29-year-old is being detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
