A 54-year-old Winnipeg man faces fines and charges after allegedly blowing more than three times the legal limit during a traffic stop last week.

On June 20, at approximately 7:40 p.m., an Amaranth RCMP officer was driving on Highway 16 and observed a vehicle speeding.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 16 at Road 71 North and was able to smell an odour of alcohol from the 54-year-old male.

The officer then asked the driver to provide a breath sample on a roadside screening device. The result of that test was a fail.

The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance and taken to the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment to provide breath samples to be analyzed. Police say the result of those samples was more than triple the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle.
