Winnipeg nearly broke a 100-year-old daytime high record Wednesday, but not the way you would typically like to see in July.

It was a misty and cool day on Wednesday, July 25. The airport recorded 3.7 mm of rain, along with a daytime high temperature of 16.9 C.

According to statistics from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), that makes Wednesday the coldest July 25 since 1971.

ECCC Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says this was just a blip and not an indication of what is to come.

"It's just a coincidence," Hasell said. "It's just where the low happened to be yesterday."

The coldest July 25 on record is 1918, 100 years ago, when the temperature dipped down to 16.7 C.

Unlike 1918, where the temperature dropped even further the next day, Hasell says we'll be back to summer-like weather starting Friday and throughout the weekend.
