A Bible camp in northern Manitoba was engulfed in flames this week as wildfires threatened surrounding communities.

The Berge Lake Bible Camp sits on the east shore of Burge Lake, just north of the community of Lynn Lake, Man. It was also referred to as the Kiddie Camp.

Tricia Thorpe posted pictures taken by a friend to social media on Thursday. "Nothing left of Berge Lake Bible Camp! So devastating!" she wrote.

Another person posted video of the fire, while they watched from the other side of the lake. "We're just watching the Kiddie Camp burn down and there's nothing we can do about it."

The fires also threatened First Nations communities earlier in the week. Officials with the Red Cross say they are providing lodging, food and other supports for members of the Marcel Colomb First Nation.

The community was evacuated earlier this week due to the fires.

Most residents drove themselves to the nearby communities of Lynn Lake or Leaf Rapids, and the Red Cross says their team in Thompson also provided buses for anyone who needed transportation.

They expect most residents will be in Thompson until it's safe to return to their community.
