For the first time in Winnipeg's history, the city will experience a whiteout during 30°C weather.

It's time for game six between the Winnipeg Jets and Nashville Predators. The Jets have a chance to end the series tonight and advance to the Conference Finals, where they would meet the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.

A hot whiteout

"If you like warm temperatures, today is the day to be outside," laughed Environment Canada's Mike Russo.

The current forecast is predicting 30°C as a high Monday, with just a few clouds throughout the day. By the evening, with the Winnipeg Jets and Nashville Predators set to start game six at 8:30 p.m., temperatures will only have dropped to around 17°C.

While it is incredibly warm, Monday is unlikely to break the May 7, 1953 record high of 33.3°C. Downtown Winnipeg, which has only kept records since 2000, could see a new record high, beating 2006's 25.8°C.

The UV index is at 6 or high, so if you are heading to the Whiteout Party early, think about bringing some sunscreen!

Capacity crowd expected

Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW) is expecting a capacity crowd tonight of 23,000 fans. There are no current plans for expansion at tonight's game, but EDW hasn't ruled it out for future games, assuming the Jets advance.

If capacity is reached, entrance will be restricted. Donald and Portage will close at 8:00 p.m. or earlier. Smith and Portage, as well as Hargrave and Graham, will remain open, but you will only be able to enter when others leave.

Stay hydrated

With the warm temperatures, EDW is encouraging everyone to stay hydrated. Fans will be allowed to bring clear or translucent bottles of water into the party, but they are subject to security checks. Water will also be available on site.

Bring a tin for the bin

Winnipeg Harvest will continue to collect at the game. Last Thursday, 2,700 pounds of food were collected. Harvest is in desperate need of donations right now.
