An 18-year-old will be appearing in court after Mounties and U.S law enforcement agencies worked to identify who was behind four disturbing calls.

No one was injured after"swatting" phone calls were made about Tennessee and North Carolina schools. Swatting is making false claims about a life-threatening situation by phone, specifically to provide police to arrive armed.

"The police departments reported receiving a 911 call, on separate dates, from a male advising he was inside a school with a firearm and was going to start shooting. In both cases, the schools were placed on lockdown and a large number of police officers, including SWAT officers, attended," RCMP Manitoba says in a statement. "These situations created dangerous circumstances for the public and responding emergency response personnel."

The calls were false, and after a significant investigation with the Department of Homeland Security, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, learnt to be coming from Manitoba.

RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service then learnt the calls were coming from a Fisher River Cree Nation home. When mounties arrived with a search warrant, they found an 18-year-old man whom they placed in custody. Officers seized electronics from the home.

The suspect has since been released and is expected to attend court in December.
