It was a loud and lightning-filled night in the City of Winnipeg and much of southern Manitoba, bringing with it heavy rainfall.

Shannon Moodie from Environment Canada says that two separate storms moved through Winnipeg.

The first one came through after 8:00 p.m. Moodie says that St. Vital reported 30 mm of rain and West Kildonan had 46 mm. There was also reports of pea-sized hail in Selkirk.

The second storm moved through in the middle of the night. Moodie says just general rainfall amounts are available early Thursday morning, of 15-20 mm.

"I'm sure throughout the day we'll probably receive some more numbers. Due to the conductive nature of storms like that the amounts usually vary largely throughout the city."

Moodie says the second storm also brought reports of dime to quarter-sized hail in Fort Richmond, South St. Vital, and Elmwood.

More on the way?

Thursday morning in Winnipeg should remain dry, however, another storm is possible for later in the day.

"It looks like the greatest instability is in the southeast of Manitoba, but Winnipeg could get hit again."

After that system moves through Moodie says there's a high-pressure ridge building and will bring some stability for a while.
